Dr. Conrad Hawkins

Conrad Hawkins is a skilled doctor in the medical drama series The Resident. I can honestly say that he is one of my favorites. He is a doctor who puts his patients first even if it means breaking hospital rules. For example, he often challenges hospital administrators and insurance companies when they care more about money than saving lives. In season one episode two his patient Micah has severe heart issues and has been waiting for a heart transplant for over 2 years. Micah ends up collapsing and Conrad realizes the situation is critical. A heart then eventually becomes available for Micah making him next in line for a transplant. However, the congressman came in with heart failure whereas he was a match for the heart too. The Chief of Surgery argued that the congressman case was more severe so he should get the heart. It was obvious that Micah deserved the heart because he were waiting for so long plus he was much younger. So, to ensure Micah qualifies for the surgery Conrad swaps the blood sample of the congressman for someone who isn't a match and Micah ends up having the surgery. This proves how Conrad is willing to take risks and bend the rules to do what he believes is morally right. His actions show how much he cares about his patients and how frustrated he is with a system that puts money above saving lives. Even though his choices cause problems with the hospital he shows his strong dedication to helping people. This makes Conrad not just a great doctor but also an inspiring character who stands up for what’s fair. In the end Micah and the congressman eventually both get a heart.
