Dr. Randolph Bell

Dr. Randolph Bell is the CEO and Chief of Surgery of Chastain Park Memorial Hospital in the medical drama series The Resident. In the first season Dr.Bell is a skilled surgeon who developed hand tremors whereas it eventually led to surgical errors. To protect his reputation he manipulates situations and covers up his mistakes, prioritizing his status over patient safety. This makes him seem selfish and more focused on his career. However, as the series goes on Dr.Bell changes a lot. He becomes more focused on both the hospital and the patients. He also becomes more honest and works to regain the trust of those around him. An example of Dr. Bell’s growth is how he handles the fallout from his earlier mistakes. In the first season as I mentioned Dr. Bell covers up his surgical errors caused by his hand tremor. He even blamed others to protect his reputation. This shows his selfishness and lack of accountability. In later seasons after his diagnosis Dr. Bell begins taking responsibility. He openly admits his condition to his colleagues and makes the decision to stop practicing medicine so he doesn't harm patients.
