Dr. AJ Austin is introduced as a highly skilled cardiologist in the medical drama series The Resident.  He often saves lives in the most high-stress situations.  However, he has an confidence that can come off as arrogant which  sometimes causes tension with his colleagues.  He’s not afraid to act quickly or go against others advice if he feels it’s what’s best for the patient.  Despite these clashes AJ’s talent can’t be denied so o vertime AJ earns the respect of his colleagues even if they don’t agree with his methods and  we see AJ’s character change. While he remains bold and confident we also get to see his more vulnerable side. He starts to understand the importance of teamwork in his relationships with colleagues. Dr. Mina Oakafor

Dr. Oakafor is introduced as a very talented second year resident in the medical drama series The Resident. Mina stands out to me because she has the ability to perform high-stake surgeries even as a second year resident which is very unusual. I also love her willingness to call out Dr.Bell on several occasions. Earlier in season one of  The Resident she confronts him about his poor surgical performance due to his hand tremor. Instead of ignoring the issue Mina informs him how his actions endanger patients and let him know that she refuses to assist in covering up his mistakes even if it risks her position at the hospital. She was born in Nigeria and she often faces immigration problems so her fearless attitude and dedication to patient safety makes her a great doctor. She is one of the most inspiring characters in the resident.  https://thetvdb.com/series/the-resident/people/63963450

Dr. Lane Hunter

Dr. Lane Hunter is introduced in the medical drama series The Resident as the top oncologist in Georgia. She is initially shown as a skilled doctor who is kind and caring. However, as the series progresses it is revealed that she is involved in harmful medical practices. She was over treating patients and committing insurance fraud. Her actions caused conflicts within the hospital and affected characters in the series a lot. She was eventually arrested and when she is let out on bail she is shot to death by one of her former patients brother, concluding her storyline. Viewers have mixed reactions to the portrayal of Dr. Lane Hunter. For instance, Paste Magazine criticized the series for the portrayal of this kind of medical industry suggesting it might be too negative (Paste Magazine). However, I believe that the portrayal showed the harsh reality of how unethical practices can exist in the medical field. It made the storyline impactful and it highlighted the importance of holding...

Nicolette Nevin

Nicolette Nevin often referred as "Nic" is a nurse practitioner at Chastain Memorial Park Hospital in the medical drama series The Resident. She is definitely one of my favorites in the show. She has sharp instincts whereas she catches symptoms in patients that others might overlook. Nic also advocates for her patients even if it means going against hospital protocols or higher ups. Earlier in season one, one of her frequently cancer patients Lily came into the ER to get an infection treated. Nic then realized something was wrong with Lily because Lily wasn’t improving despite her treatments. Nic noticed that Lily’s symptoms didn’t match her diagnosis and that her condition got worse after receiving chemotherapy from one of the oncologists Dr. Lane Hunter. Nic grew more suspicious when Lily expressed doubts about her treatment and mentioned feeling overly weak. Nic investigated further and started digging into records and talking to patients eventually uncovering Dr. Hunter’...

Dr. Randolph Bell

Dr. Randolph Bell is the  CEO and  Chief of Surgery of Chastain Park Memorial Hospital in the medical drama series The Resident. In the first season Dr.Bell is a skilled surgeon who developed hand tremors whereas it eventually led to surgical errors. To protect his reputation he manipulates situations and covers up his mistakes, prioritizing his status over patient safety. This makes him seem selfish and more focused on his career. However, as the series goes on Dr.Bell changes a lot. He becomes more focused on both the hospital and the patients. He also becomes more honest and works to regain the trust of those around him. An example of Dr. Bell’s growth is how he handles the fallout from his earlier mistakes. In the first season as I mentioned Dr. Bell covers up his surgical errors caused by his hand tremor. He even blamed others to protect his reputation. This shows his selfishness and lack of accountability. In later seasons after his diagnosis Dr. Bell begins taking...

Dr. Conrad Hawkins

Conrad Hawkins is a skilled doctor in the medical drama series The Resident. I can honestly say that he is one of my favorites. He is a doctor who puts his patients first even if it means breaking hospital rules. For example, he often challenges hospital administrators and insurance companies when they care more about money than saving lives. In season one episode two his patient Micah has severe heart issues and has been waiting for a heart transplant for over 2 years. Micah ends up collapsing and Conrad realizes the situation is critical. A heart then eventually becomes available for Micah making him next in line for a transplant. However, the congressman came in with heart failure whereas he was a match for the heart too. The Chief of Surgery argued that the congressman case was more severe so he should get the heart. It was obvious that Micah deserved the heart because he were waiting for so long plus he was much younger. So, to ensure Micah qualifies for the surgery Conrad swaps t...

Dr. Devon Pravesh

Dr.Devon Pravesh is one of the main characters in the medical drama series The Resident. He was introduced as an intern under the mentorship of Dr.Conrad Hawkins. It would be frustrating how his character handled certain situations he would come off as stubborn and judgmental. Specifically in Season 3 Episode 3 he disagreed how Conrad went about treating a patient. The patient was a convicted murderer who had someone in hostage. So, after the murderer surgery was successful Conrad withheld morphine from the murderer to get answers out of him. Devon went on to say Conrad tourtured the man and he even asked to be assigned to a new resident regarding Conrad's treatment. Fans even expressed their frustration with him. A reddit user commented "I used to really like Devon, but he is really starting to be annoying w his attitude regarding Conrad's treatment of the murderer" (Reddit). It was frustrating because Devon was fine with crossing boundaries if it benefited him pers...
